Seizoen 1 - Aflevering 3

Adrian Chiles, Edwina Currie, Fatima Whitbread, Mim Shaikh, Amar Latif, Dom Joly and Pauline McLynn still have 650km to travel to reach Istanbul. The last leg of their route takes them through more Bulgarian forest in the Rhodope Mountains, involving a tricky 1,500m climb. Near the summit, the incline increases, though the breath-taking view proves worth it. In Batak, they visit the small orthodox church of St Nedelya where around 5,000 people were massacred by Ottoman militia in the 19th century. Eventually, they arrive in Turkey, heading for the magnificent Suleymaniye Mosque in Istanbul.

Seizoen 1 - Aflevering 2

Adrian Chiles, Edwina Currie, Fatima Whitbread, Mim Shaikh, Amar Latif, Dom Joly and Pauline McLynn spend their last day in Serbia at a monastery hidden in the forests of the Sicevo gorge. Before leaving, Adrian leads the group in a ritual of remembrance with each pilgrim leaving a candle for a loved one. The group travels on to Bulgarian capital Sofia, where Mim and Amar explore its only mosque and Dom, Edwina and Fatima visit the museum of socialist art, a memorial to the nation's communist past. The group reunites and follows the trail towards the Rila Mountains, the highest in the Balkans.

Seizoen 1 - Aflevering 1

Journalist Adrian Chiles, former politician Edwina Currie, Olympian Fatima Whitbread, broadcaster Mim Shaikh, TV presenter Amar Latif, comedian Dom Joly and actress Pauline McLynn set out to cover sections of the Sultans Trail - a modern-day 2,200km pilgrimage across Eastern Europe that starts in Vienna and ends in Istanbul. Each has varying religions, with Dom and Pauline confirmed atheists. Starting in Serbia's capital Belgrade, they stay in basic hostels and sleep in shared dorms, acting as simple pilgrims traversing the ancient military route by rail and foot.
